MATT BARAN '07 ADVANCES TO US OPEN QUALIFYING FINAL

SALEM, Mass. -- Former Vikings' golfer Matt Baran '07 is one step closer to qualifying for this year's US Open. Baran, the head golf professional at The Ridge Club (Sandwich, Mass.), advanced to the final qualifying round after finishing even at Kirkbrae Country Club in Rhode Island this past week. The final qualifying round will take place, June 6 at Century Country Club and Old Oaks Country Club (Purchase, N.Y.).  This year's U.S. Open returns to The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., for the first time in 34 years.     

Baran was a three-time Division III Ping All-American who helped lead Salem State to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances (2006-07). The 2007 Salem State President's Cup Winner won seven individual championships during his career while leading the Vikings to an impressive 10 team-tournament titles during his four years. A three-time All-Northeast Region honoree, he was also selected to the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Team in 2006. Baran ended his career with 27 top 10 and five runner-up finishes in 43 career tournaments.
