Vikings Tie for Third at 86th ANNUAL NEIGA CHAMPIONSHIP

Brewster, Mass -- Salem State tied for third as 19 colleges and universities across New England gathered at The Captains Course in Brewster, MA, on Sunday and Monday, October 17-18, 2021 for the 86th Annual Men's and 5th Annual Women's New England Intercollegiate Golf Championship hosted by Cleveland Golf / Srixon. Ninety-one Division III golfers competed.

Salem State had their best showing at the event since coming in first in 2011. The Vikings tied with Springfield College after shooting a two-day (318-315, 633), behind runner-up Husson (311-318, 629) and tournament champion Babson (291-300, 591)    

Babson's Nicholas Gianelos, the 2019 winner (no tournament in 2020 due to Covid-19), defended his title. His two-day (143, -1) was two strokes better than his win in 2019.

Brian Cannata (75-78, 153) and Ethan Doyle (76-77, 153) each finished in the top-ten, tying for seventh place overall. Travis Ryan (t-22, 80-79, 159), Matt Godbout (t-51, 87-81, 168) and Danny DiLisio (t-64, 91-84, 175) rounded out the field for the Vikings. 

The New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) has been in existence since 1934 and includes member colleges and universities in New England and is considered to be the oldest college golf tournament.
