Vikings Secure Second Straight Road Win

CHICOPEE, Mass. -- Hot off a thrilling victory over MIT on Tuesday, the Salem State Men's Basketball team hit the road once again to square off against the Elms College Blazers in Chicopee, Mass. where the Vikings picked up their second win of the week by a score of 70-57 to improve to 3-5 on the young season.

The Blazers fed off their home-court advantage in the first nine minutes of action, but after Chris MacDonald (Wakefield, Mass.) hit a jumper to lock the score up at 15-all, the Vikings immediately grabbed the defensive rebound on the opposite end and stormed back on offense to find Macdonald who sank a three-pointer from downtown to take their first lead of the evening (18-15).

Salem widened the gap to four points before the home team chipped away to take a narrow 27-26 lead, but that lead was short lived as the Vikings continued to fire away and eventually held a 36-31 advantage at halftime.

The Vikings continued to maintain the upper hand after the break as the blue and orange orchestrated an 11-4 run, bringing the score to 55-42 in favor of the visitors with 11:11 remaining in regulation.

Keeping the home team's offense at bay, Salem began to pour it on, going on top by as many as 19 thanks to three straight layups from Conner Byrne (Melrose, Mass.) as well as a jumper from Jarret Byrne (Melrose, Mass.) (70-51) with 2:53 on the clock.

In the closing minutes, the Blazers closed the deficit, but the Vikings already had the game in hand, securing a 70-57 victory over Elms to open up December, 1-0.
