Brandeis Defeats Salem State 77-58

WALTHAM, Mass. –  Toby Harris (Durham, N.C.) scored 30 points to lead the Judges past Salem State 77-58, in the season opener for both teams. Brandeis never trailed as Harris scored the first two buckets of the game from 3-point range. He also had a put-back dunk as the Judges opened on a 10-1 run. Brandeis's lead extended to 19-3 with 11:19 on the clock before SSU got on track, but the Vikings were unable to contain Harris. The Judges led 44-27 at the half, with Harris scoring 25 of his 30 points before the break.

Though Harris was quieter in the second half, with only five points, he had three assists, two steals and two blocks to stuff his stat sheet. Brandeis led by as many as 25 points with 7:25 to go after a pair of Terrell Brown (Lowell, Mass.) free throws made it 67-42.

Harris's 30 points came on 11-of-18 from the field, 5-of-10 from 3-point range and 3-of-3 from the line. Juvens Louis (Everett, Mass.), who netted 10 points off the bench for the Vikings, was the team's leading scorer. Conner Byrne (Melrose, Mass.) had eight points, six rebounds and a pair of blocks.

Salem State shot 42.2% (25-59) from the field, but converted just 4-of-10 (40.0%) free throws. The Judges connected on 28-62 (45.2%) shots, including 10-of-23 (43.5%) from behind the arc.
