Jarret Byrne and Conner Byrne Lead Vikings Past Rams

SALEM, Mass.Jarret Byrne (Melrose, Mass.) scored 17 points and had a season-high 16 rebounds while Conner Byrne (Melrose, Mass.) added 11 points, 11 boards and four blocks as Salem State earned a 78-58 victory over Framingham State in MASCAC men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Twohig Gymnasium. The Vikings now stand at 9-7 on the season and remain undefeated in conference (5-0). The Rams go to 2-13 and 0-3 in the league.

Sean Bryan (Lowell, Mass.) scored 13 points and dished out nine assists to go along with five steals while Chris MacDonald (Wakefield, Mass.) provided 10 points off the bench for the Vikings.

Jahden Erold (Boston, Mass.) led Framingham State with 15 points. Brett Okundaye (Boston, Mass.) provided 15 points and nine rebounds while Emmanuel Raymond (Worcester, Mass.) notched eight points and eight rebounds.

Salem State used an 11-2 run to open up a 22-8 lead in the first after a made three by Deven Okowuga (Lowell, Mass.), The Vikings increased their lead to 32-13 following a dunk by Conner Byrne. Byrne, who had nine first half points, with three blocks helped limit Framingham State to just 10-of-37 (27.0%) shooting in the first half. Ivan Nyantenji (Nashua, N.H.) led all Framingham starters with seven first half points. The Vikings exited the first half holding a 37-24 lead.

Chris MacDonald (Wakefield, Mass.) scored 10 points after halftime, and along with Jarrett Byrne – nine points and seven rebounds in the second half – spearheaded a Vikings' offense that shot 40.5% (15-37) from the field after halftime. The Rams cut the deficit to single digits after a jumper by Raymond. However, an 18-7 run by the Vikings brought the lead to 20 (57-37) following a three by MacDonald. Salem State took their largest lead of the game, 74-47 after a made three by Juvens Louis (Everrett, Mass.) with 5:26 remaining. The Vikings emptied their bench before winning 78-58.

The Rams shot 24-68 (35.3% ) for the game, but made just 1-of-10 (10.0%) from behind the arc.
