SALEM, Mass. -- Kaitlin Bardellini (Northfield, N.H.) scored three times and Emily Harris (Crondall, England) notched a pair of goals and added four assists as Castleton cruised to a 7-1 Little East win over Salem State at Alumni Field on Wednesday evening. The Spartans move to 8-7 and 6-3 in conference. The Vikings slide to 4-9 and 2-7 in the LEC.
Kimberly McCarthy (West Sayville, N.Y.) put Castleton on top 1-0 in the 8th minute, putting home a loose ball past keeper Carson Reidy (Burlington, Mass.). Despite being outshot 10-2 in the quarter, Mikayla Mason (Beverly, Mass.) tied the game for Salem State in the 14th minute, ripping a shot into the upper right corner.
Harris and Chance Jaquin (Canastota, N.Y.) answered for Castleton, scoring back-to-back goals in the second period as Castleton re-took the lead.
Bardellini made it a three-goal game in the 29 th minute as she found the back of the net, giving the Spartans a 4-1 lead.
The Vikings closed the gap in shots in the second quarter, but Castleton still held a sizeable 16-5 margin heading into halftime.
Harris recorded her third straight assist, setting up Bardellini for her second consecutive goal as the lead grew to 5-1 in the 37th minute.
Harris added her second of the game late in the third quarter, before Bardellini closed the scoring with a hat-trick in the fourth quarter, making the final 7-1.
Zoe Martin (Haverhill, Mass.) made five saves for Castleton in the win while Reidy stopped 13 shots in her first career start.
The Spartans held a 24 margin in shots and an 11-3 advantage in corners.
