Vikings Sail Past Corsairs

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Two second quarter goals carried Salem State past UMass Dartmouth by a score of 2-1 in a Little East (LEC) match at Cressy Field on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings improve to 2-5 and 1-3 in the LEC. The Corsairs drop to 2-6 and 0-4 in the Little East Conference (LEC).

All of the scoring took place in the second quarter. It only took Salem State until the 16:46 mark to take the lead when senior Mackenzie Schmink tipped in deflection from classmate Mikayla Mason. UMass Dartmouth evened the score on a penalty corner, sophomore Jenna Carvalho found Kylie Dias for the slap shot with 17:43 on the clock. The Vikings scored the game-winning goal with 22:39 on the clock on a breakaway from Mason.

The Vikings had four penalty corners, while the Corsairs had three in the second half, but neither team would score for the remainder of the game as the Vikings held on.

Kaia Hollingsworth made one save to earn the win in net for the Vikings. UMass Dartmouth netminder Hannah Trombly did not record a save.
