Gulls Fly by Vikings

BEVERLY, Mass. – This evening, Salem State traveled to Beverly, Massachusetts to take on cross town foe, Endicott College, in non-conference action. The Gulls high- powered offense proved to be too much for the Vikings as they rattled off 68 shots, landing nine, to secure the 8-0 victory.

Despite attempting 17 shots in the opening period the Gulls were unable to find the back of the net due to the Vikings' defensive effort and keeper, Kaia Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.), who made four saves in the frame to keep the game tied at zero a piece.

One minute into the second period, Meaghan Hogan (Cheshire, Conn.), was able to sneak one past Hollingsworth to give her team the first goal of the game. After Hollingsworth turned away the next five shots on goal, Lindsay Bruns (Belfast, Maine) scored to give the Gulls a 2-0 cushion with 10 minutes to go in the period. The Gulls would add one more goal in the second stanza to give them the 3-0 lead going into halftime.

The Gulls picked up right where they left off when Olivia Lampasona (Watertown, Mass.) landed one of her own five minutes into the start of the half, to increase the lead to four. The Gulls would go onto score four more goals before taking the commanding 8-0 victory over the Vikings.

Hollingsworth made 19 saves in the effort.
