McCarthy Named to Little East First Team
SALEM, Mass. - Goalkeeper Kelli McCarthy (Foxborough, Mass.) was named to the 2021 Little East Conference First Team as four Vikings earned all-conference honors as voted on by the league's coaches. Midfielder Melanie Mason (Beverly, Mass.) was selected to the second team while midfielders Mikayla Mason (Beverly, Mass.) and Marissa Laganas (Beverly, Mass.) were third team selections. The four all-conference players representing Salem State are the most since 2007. Additionally, senior Kaylan Harkins (Halifax, Mass.) earned the 12th Player Award.
McCarthy, led the LEC with four shutouts and combined for another, while compiling a league-best .816% save percentage. The senior topped all keepers with 160 saves, fourth most in school history in a single season. Her seven career shutouts are tied for second all-time at Salem State.
Melanie Mason totaled 18 points for Salem State in 2021, recording six goals and six assists. Her six assists tied for seventh best in the league. Mikayla Mason led the Vikings with 26 points (11g, 4a), which placed her sixth in the Little East. Her three game-winning goals were tied for fourth best in the league while registering 40 shots on goal, tying for ninth in the Little East. Laganas earns her second all-conference selection after being named to the second team in 2019. The senior helped the Vikings allow just 2.12 goals per game - fourth-best in the LEC - while adding a goal and a pair of defensive saves.
