Babson Wins Twice Against Salem State

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Babson took both games of a doubleheader against Salem State on Sunday at Govoni Field. The Beavers won 7-2, and 10-2 to improve to 6-7 on the season. The Vikings lose their seventh straight to go to 2-10.

Tim Noone (2-0) struck out 13 in five innings to pick up a win in game one. He scattered five hits and allowed one earned run on an RBI double by Conor Dolan in the fifth inning. Jack Pirkl's first inning single brought home two runs as Basbon led 2-0 after one. Leading 3-1, in the sixth, the Beavers scored four runs to pull away with Michael O'Brien providing the pivotal hit with a two-run double to left. Jake Boucher's sacrifice fly in the seventh gave the Vikings their second run, but reliever Tim Person did not allow any further damage as Babson won 7-2. 

Cook finished 4-for-5 with a run and RBI for the Beavers. Brock Pare (0-2) took the loss for Salem State, giving up nine hits and three runs - two earned with five walks in 4.1 innings. EJ Field went 2-for-4 with a double while Dolan finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Jake Boucher and Brahiam Ortega hit solo home runs for Salem State in game two, but Babson silenced the rest of the lineup to earn a 10-2 victory. Anthony St. John (2-0) threw seven innings of five-hit ball, allowing just a run with four strikeouts to earn the win. Brant Savage went 3-for-4 with five RBI, including a grand slam in the first that gave the Beavers a 4-0 lead. 

Babson led 7-0 in the fifth, plating two following an RBI single by Savage and a wild pitch. Ortega blasted a home run to right in the sixth for the Vikings, but Ryan Noone answered with a two-run home run to right in the bottom of the inning, making the score 9-1. Boucher hit his first of the year in the ninth to make the final 10-2.

Salem State starter Mason Consigli (0-3) lasted 4.1 innings, allowing six hits and six runs with six walks and a pair of strikeouts. TJ Beninati and Boucher each finished 2-for-4 for Salem State.
