BEVERLY, Mass. -- Salem State opened the 2023 season at North Field on Friday, losing 7-0 to the #10 Gulls of Endicott. The Vikings managed just four hits on the afternoon, as Gulls' starter Rian Schwede went seven innings to pick up the victory.
John Mulready went 4-for-4 for Endicott, which scored single runs in the third and fourth innings. Mulready made the score 4-0 as part of a two-run fifth with an RBI single. Salem State starter Jack Sefrino went five innings and was charged with four runs - two earned on eight hits with three strikeouts.
The Gulls broke open the game in the eighth, as Joseph Millar, who went 3-for-5, and Caleb Shpur added an RBI single and double respectively off reliever Brock Pare. Pare went 3.0 innings, allowing three runs on four hits with six strikeouts.
