Salem State Sweeps Framingham State

SALEM, Mass. -- Mason Consigli (Northbridge, Mass.) pitched Salem State to a game one, 4-2 victory over the Framingham State Rams on Tuesday in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at The Central Campus Baseball Field. The Vikings completed the sweep in game two as the Vikings used a three-run sixth to break open a close game and win 5-1. Salem State is now 16-15 on the year and 7-8 in conference. The Rams go to 9-21 and 4-11 in the MASCAC.

Game One

Consigli went five innings, allowing just three hits and a run with nine strikeouts in the win. Zach Piroh (Stratford, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBI.

Framingham State struck first as Ryan Boyle (Arlington, Mass.) hit a two-out first inning home run. A double steal in the second by Salem State tied the game as EJ Field (Gloucester, Mass.) came home with the first Vikings' run. A two-run double by Piroh in the third and a triple in the fifth produced Salem State's next two runs, giving the Vikings a comfortable 4-1 lead. Consigli allowed just one hit after the second as Kyle Banche (Torrington, Conn.) pitched an inning of scoreless relief. Cam Gilroy (Salisbury,  Mass.) doubled to begin the seventh for the Rams off reliever Jake Boucher (Wallingford, Conn.) as the first two Framingham State batters reached base. However, Boucher induced a double play, which scored Gilroy, and a groundout to second to end the threat and earn the save.

Gilroy was 2-for-3 for Framingham State with a double, triple and run scored. Boucher collected two hits and added two runs for the Vikings.

Game Two

Trailing 1-0, Framingham State tied the game in the fifth. Chris Iannetta (Watertown, Mass.) and Robert Johnston (Watertown, Mass.) hit back-to-back two-out singles. An intentional walk loaded the bases and Kennedy Wilson (Natick, Mass.) worked a walk off reliever Greg Gentle (Arlington, Mass.), who had just entered the game, to bring home Ianetta with Framingham State's first run.

Boucher brought home the go-ahead run for Salem State with an RBI double in the fifth. The Vikings plated three runs on three hits in the sixth to pull ahead 5-1. Traverse Briana (Peabody, Mass.) doubled in the first run and following a Framingham State error, which led to a second run, Christian Burt (Lynn, Mass.) came home on a wild pitch.

Juan Hurtado (Homestead, Fla.) started for the Vikings and pitched well, allowing just a run on six hits with seven strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work. Greg Gentle (Arlington, Mass.) earned the win, allowing one hit and two walks in 1.1 innings. Bobby Jellison (Salem, Mass.) pitched a scoreless seventh for Salem State.

Scott Nosky (Dedham, Mass.) took the loss for Framingham State, allowing three earned runs with five strikeouts and two walks.
