Endicott Takes Two From Salem State

BEVERLY, Mass. -- Salem State lost their season-opening twin-bill to Endicott College, 3-1 and 14-0 on Saturday afternoon at North Field. Traverse Briana homered in his first at-bat of the season in the first inning of game one, but the Vikings' offense managed just two hits the rest of the way in the Gulls' 3-1 win. Brock Pare pitched well in his first start, scattering four hits in 4.1 innings with five strikeouts and a pair of walks. Kyle Banche and Carl Beatrice combined to pitch 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. Greg Gentile allowed a run on two hits in an inning of work. 

Salem State (0-2) managed just six hits in a 14-0 loss to Endicott (2-0) in game two. The Gulls pounded out 15 hits, scoring 14 runs against four Vikings' pitchers. Jake Boucher and Bobby Jellison collected two hits apiece, but Endicott starter Jordan Gottesman struck out nine batters, allowing just one walk in five innings of work. Salem State starter Jack Sefrino allowed eight runs - six earned - with a pair of walk and two strikeouts in three innings of work before being replaced by Mason Consigli. Brad Feeder followed Consigli in the sixth before Trevor Xenos closed the game for Salem State, pitching 1.2 innings in relief. The three relievers allowed four earned runs and and seven hits over the final six innings.
