Men's Basketball Thumps Salem State, 82-66

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott men's basketball team defeated Salem State, 82-66, in non-conference action on Thursday night at MacDonald Gymnasium. 

The duo of Ty Vitko (Dover, N.H.) and Jalen Echevarria (Lynn, Mass.) netted 18 points, ripped down four rebounds and swiped two steals, respectively. 

Mark Barrett (Brookline, Mass.) stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points (6-11 FG, 3-6 3PT), five rebounds, four dimes, and three steals in 24 minutes of action.

Parker McLaren (Newburyport, Mass.) rounded out the individual highlights for Endicott with eight points, nine rebounds, and two steals off the bench. 

In the opening stanza, both teams traded buckets early on until a 20-6 scoring stretch for the Blue & Green propelled a 44-31 advantage at the break. The run was ignited by Echevarria (9), Liam Dunfee (Nahant, Mass.) (6), and Vitko (5). 

From there, the Gulls fueled their largest lead of 24 points (67-43, 11:12 2nd) courtesy of a 9-2 burst. The stretch was commanded by a Vitko three-pointer, a Jeff Hill (Lynn, Mass.) free throw, a McLaren lay-in, and capped by an Echevarria three-ball. 

Meanwhile, the hosts would not relinquish the double-digit lead and picked up their fourth-straight triumph. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Blue & Green have won five straight matchups against the Vikings dating back to December 19, 2019 (W, 89-61). 
  • The Gulls manufactured a season-high 24 assists on 32 made field goals.
  • The hosts out-dueled the visitors in the lane, 32-28.
  • Endicott posted a season-best 13 steals.

Endicott (6-3, 3-0 CCC) welcomes Saint Joseph's (Me.) to MacDonald Gymnasium on Wednesday, December 13 at 7:00 PM. Salem State (4-4, 0-0 MASCAC) hosts Brandeis on Saturday, December 9 at 3:00 PM.
