Norwich Tops Salem State 3-0

NORTHFIELD, Vt.  -- Salem State continued their season at Norwich on Wednesday evening with the Cadets earning a 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-20) victory over the Vikings. Norwich improves to 5-2 on the year while Salem State slips to 0-3.

Norwich cruised to a 25-14 victory in set one. In set two, an Alexandra Maloney (Bridgewater, Mass.) kill helped Salem State to a 5-1 lead to open the game. Another kill by Darcy McDowell (Goshen, N.Y.) pushed the advantage to 10-5 in favor of Salem State. However, Norwich went on a 15-3 run, highlighted by four kills from Michele Zummo (Highland Mills, N.Y.) and the Cadets ran away with a 25-14 win.

The Vikings kept the third set tight, as Salem State erased an early six-point deficit. A kill by Sarah Janco (Methuen, Mass.) brought the Vikings to within a point, 17-16 before back-to-back errors by Norwich gave the Vikings an 18-17 lead. With the score tied at 18-18, the Cadets once again used a late surge, a 7-2 run to cement the win.

Danielle Sheehan (Walpole, Mass.) had 12 digs while Morgan Adams (Scotia, N.Y.) paced the Vikings with nine assists and six digs. McDowell added five kills and four digs.
