Vikings Topple Huskies 8-1
SALEM, Mass. – Salem State improved to 2-1 in the Little East and 3-2 overall with an 8-1 victory over Southern Maine at The Central Campus Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon. Once again, Anastasia Startseva (Volgograd, Russia) and Madeline Allaire (Columbus, Ohio) led the way at first and second singles and teamed up at first doubles for an 8-1 win against Elise Harvey (Newton Abbot, United Kingdom) / Samantha Harden (Turner, Maine). Southen Maine's Courtney Jordan (Portland, Maine) picked up the only point for the Huskies with a 6-0, 7-5(11-9) victory at third singles.
Startseva defeated Denae Walton (Plymouth, Minn.) in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 while Allaire beat Samantha Harden (Turner, Maine), 6-0, 6-1.
Kristin Klimowicz Ipswich, Mass.) / Meredith Macdonald (Lynn, Mass.) picked up a win at second doubles, 8-2 over Ashley Owens (Penn Yan, N.Y.) / Courtney Jordan (Portland, Maine). Caroline Robitalle (South Hadley, Mass.) / Liana Angelis (Tewksbury, Mass.) won 8-2 at third doubles.
Jenna Jarman (Auburn, N.Y.), Macdonald and Klimowicz all won in straight sets as Southern Maine slides to 3-2 and 1-2 in the Little East.
