Chargers Defeat Vikings 13-6 in Opener

SALEM, Mass. - Jess Tattersall (Keene, NH) scored four goals to power the Colby-Sawyer Chargers to a 13-6 win over the Salem State Vikings at Alumni Field on Friday night in the season opener for both squads. Tattersall scored two goals during the Chargers' four-goal outburst at the start of the second half. The Vikings fall to 0-1 while Colby-Sawyer gets their first win of the season.

Tattersall (4), Sarah Morin (Pelham, NH) (2), Briana Couture (South Hadley, Mass.) (2), Caroline Tompkins (Marblehead, Mass.) (2), Hannah Marquis (Weare, NH) (1), Jamie Wood (Waterford, VT) (1), Allison Piracini (Tewksbury, Mass.) (1) all goals scored by the Chargers.

Tara McLaughlin (Woburn, Mass.) (3), Suzanne Stefanik (Dalton, Mass.) (1), Mackenzie Schmink (Danvers, Mass.) (1), Amanda Bradley (Peabody, Mass.) (1) all goals scored by the Vikings.

It was a back and forth first half as both teams answered each other's scoring in a 4-4 game. Going into halftime, Colby-Sawyer held a slim 5-4 lead over Salem State. The Chargers' Sarah Morin scored two goals and had an assist in the first half.

The Vikings finished the half with 18 shot attempts to the Chargers 15 shot attempts. Despite trailing in the game, Salem State had 15 of their shots on target while Colby-Sawyer had nine of their shots on net.

The Chargers started the second half hot, scoring four consecutive goals with two coming from Tattersall. Colby-Sawyer was in front 9-4 5:51 into the second half.

Goalie Charlotte Orth (Bourne, Mass.) made a spectacular save on a Couture's shot with her foot leading to McLaughlin scoring on the other end as the Vikings were behind 9-5. The Chargers outscored the Vikings 8-2 in the second half enroute to a 13-6 win.

Colby Sawyer went 4-14 on free-position shots while Salem State converted on one of their four free-position shots.

The Chargers finished with 34 shots to the Vikings 26 shots. 

Orth (0-1) came up with 11 saves and allowed 13 goals. The Chargers' goalie Kailyn Lapham (Medway, Mass.) saved 14 shots and gave up six goals.
