Vikings Trounce Trailblazers 15-7
SALEM, Mass. - Kirsten Bradley (Peabody, Mass.) scored five goals to lift the Salem State Vikings to a 15-7 win over the MCLA Trailblazers at Alumni Field on Saturday night. The Vikings are now 2-9 on the season and 1-2 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) while the Trailblazers slip to 1-7 on the year and 0-3 in the MASCAC.
Shayla Inglis (Lowell, Mass.) - 3 goals, Tara McLaughlin (Woburn, Mass.) - 3 goals, Rose Sullivan (Charlestown, Mass.) - 2 goals, Kayla McKim (Wakefield, Mass.) - 1 goal, Marissa McClellan (Saugus, Mass.) - 1 goal all netted scores for Salem State.
Kim Granito (Glenmont, NY) - 5 goals, Brianna Morris (Salem, NY) - 1 goal, Ciera Dowling (North Adams, Mass.) - 1 goal all scored goals for MCLA. Bradley scored the first goal of the game for the Vikings at 00:20 giving them a 1-0 lead.
MCLA's Granito responded with a shot scoring in the top left corner to tie it up 1-1 a few minutes later. Salem State finished the half strong, scoring four unanswered goals as they led 5-1 at halftime. Two of these goals were scored by Inglis.
McLaughlin opened the second half with a goal extending the Vikings' lead to 6-1. Salem State ran away with the lead after Bradley scored three consecutive goals being ahead 11-4 with 17:31 remaining in the second half.
Gianna DeNisco (Peabody, Mass.) earned the win after saving five shots and allowed seven goals. Zoe Elwell (Guilderland, N.Y.) ended up with the loss finishing with nine saves and allowed 15 goals.
