Bowdoin Beats Salem State 4-1

SALEM, Mass. – Bowdoin used four different goal-scorers to race out to a 4-0 lead as the Polar Bears went on to win 4-1 win over the Salem State Vikings on Tuesday evening at Rockett Arena. Bowdoin improves to 7-7-3 on the season while the Vikings dip to 3-14-1 on the year.

5:29 into the first period, Angelina Joyce (Newton, Mass.) wrapped around the Vikings' goal and passed it inside to Julia Surgenor's (Meriden, N.H.), who tapped the puck into the net to give the Polar Bears a 1-0 lead.

11:23 into the second period, Bowdoin scored on a power play after a penalty was accessed to Ashley Wojewoszic (Lynn, Mass.) for interference. Brett Stoddard (Concord, NH) passed it to Nell Fusco (Winchester, Mass.), who shot it just inside the blue line to put the Polar Bears ahead 2-0.

A few minutes later, Katie Leininger (Newtown, Pa.) connected off a slapshot to make it a 3-0 game with 6:00 remaining in the second period.

Elly Whitmore (Anchorage, Alaska) scored the fourth unanswered for the Polar Bears with 3:32 remaining in the second period. Whitmore's goal came off of a power play as Bowdoin extended their lead to 4-0.

Salem State ended Madeline Carlson's (Orono, Minn.) shutout bid when Rose Sullivan (Charlestown, Mass.) intercepted the puck and went in all alone to score. Sullivan shot it low towards the right side of the net as the Vikings trailed 4-1 with 14:12 to go in the third period.

Carlson earned the win (1-0-1) allowing one goal and saving 14 shots. Salem State's goalie Dana Smullen (Peabody, Mass.) ended up with the loss (0-4) finishing with four goals allowed and 29 saves.
