UNE Blanks Salem State 5-0

SALEM, Mass. – Five different players scored for the University of New England as the Nor'easters sailed to a 5-0 victory over Salem State on Tuesday evening at Rockett Arena. UNE remains unbeaten at 5-0-1 on the year while the Vikings slip to 2-5-1.

Jessie Scott (Barre, Vt.) converted an early power play for UNE as the Nor'easters jumped out to a 1-0 first period lead. Tatum Gietl (Littleton, Colo.) poked in a loose puck after a UNE breakaway to give the Nor'easters a 2-0 lead at 17:43 of the first as the Nor'easters exited the first with a two-goal lead. UNE dominated possession, outshooting the Vikings 11-2 for the period.

Jessica Tolzman (Apex, N.C.) connected from the point midway through the second for the Nor'easters before Marykate Drinkwater (Franklin, Mass.) put one home on a three-on-one break with a minute left before the end of the second, as UNE built a 4-0 advantage at the end of two periods.

Meghan Hamilton (Rutland, Vt.) extended the lead to 5-0 early in the third as her shot trickled past goalie Dana Smullen (Peabody, Mass.), who replaced starter Sarah Plourde (Hooksett, N.H.) in the second.

Julia Benjamin (Tolland, Conn.) earned the win making 19 saves before being relieved by Chelsey Caron (Berlin, N.H.) – four saves –  late in the third.

Plourde ended with 21 saves while Smullen made three stops.
