Norwich Coasts 10-0 Past Salem State

 

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's ice hockey team scored early and often en route to a dominant 10-0 win over Salem State University on Friday afternoon in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action at Kreitzberg Arena.

Norwich (6-1-0, 3-0-0 NEHC) scored four times in the first 8:15 of the game to breeze to the victory and improve to 4-0-0 all-time vs. the Vikings. Wopperer and Guay took care of all of the first period scoring, alternating goals with Wopperer starting the scoring at the 2:32 mark of the first period. 

Kayla Goleniak (Canton, Mich.) found Wopperer for the first Norwich goal at 2:32 for the first of her three assists in the game. 

Guay scored her fourth of the season just 1:05 later to make it 2-0 Cadets off an assist from Carley Sedlar (Howell, Mich.). 

Wopperer increased the lead to 3-0 at the 5:16 mark by tipping home a shot from the point from Goleniak and Kelley Madden (Novelty, Ohio). 

Guay capped the first-period scoring with her second of the game and fifth of the season at the 8:15 mark off an assist from Wopperer.   

Norwich pushed the lead to 5-0 at the 4:11 mark of the second period with Taylor Tom (Kenora, Ontario) scoring her first collegiate goal with a blast from the point that beat Salem State goalie Sarah Plourde up high off assists from Bailey Park (Kimberley, British Columbia) and Mady Johnsen (St. Charles, Mo.). 

Conway scored her fifth goal of the season off an assist from Mikah Baptiste (Ottawa, Ontario) at the 8:09 mark of the middle frame to increase the lead to 6-0. 

Sedlar scored her second of the season at the 12:56 mark, tipping a shot from Goleniak and a secondary assist from Tom to make it 7-0. 

Baptiste scored twice to close out the second period scoring and stretched the lead to 9-0 with goals at the 16:27 mark and 19:31 mark. 

Conway capped the scoring at the 4:11 mark of the third period with her sixth goal of the season off assists from Sophie McGovern (Hermantown, Minn.) and Park. 

Norwich had 12 different skaters record points as it stretched its unbeaten streak to 36 straight games in NEHC play. 

Salem State (1-4-1, 1-3-1 NEHC) was outshot 65-13 in the game by the Cadets.  

Junior Emily Lambert (Riverview, Mich.) stopped all 13 shots she faced to record her first shut out of the season and eighth of her career. Vikings' goalie Sarah Plourde (Hooksett, N.H) stopped 55 shot, one less than the all-time single game saves record of 56.
