Wildcats Beat Vikings 5-2

PAWTUCKET, R.I. – A three-goal spree in the second period helped the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team stay undefeated in the NEHC. The Wildcats downed Salem State, 5-2, on Saturday.

Salem State (1-3-1, 1-2-1) got on the board first in the 10th minute with a goal from Alexis St. Thomas, assisted by Jessica Robert and Courtney Hardy. The Wildcats (1-3-1, 1-2-1) responded two goals of their own. Hannah Tracy assisted on  Kathryn Mason's goal then scored one of her own as JWU took the lead 2-1 after the first period.

The Vikings rallied with a second-period power play goal from Isabella Perrotti to even the score, 2-2, however, that's when the Wildcats stepped up. Drea Westgaard and Koryn Russell factored into the next three goals to give JWU a 5-2 lead.

Westgaard scored the eventual game-winner at the 12:09 mark then assisted on Russell's power play goal along with Samantha Kawejsza. Ninety seconds later, Kawejsza fed Russell for her second goal of the game.

The Vikings outshot the Wildcats, 26-25. JWU goaltender Jasmine Mucci turned away 24 of the 26 shots she faced.
