Spartans Slip Past Vikings 4-3

SALEM, Mass. – Rose Sullivan (Charlestown, Mass.) and Ally Webster (Hanson, Mass.) each scored first period goals as Salem State raced out to a 2-0 lead, but Castleton scored four straight goals to skate to a 4-3 victory over the Vikings in a New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) matchup on Friday evening at Rockett Arena. Salem State is now 0-2 on the year and 0-1 in conference. The Spartans improve to 1-2 and 1-0 in the league.

The Vikings carried a 2-0 lead into the second period, but Ali Stevens (Jefferson, Mass.) scored twice in the middle period to even the score for Castleton.

Casey Trail (South Shields, England) put the Spartans on top in the third, before Nicolle Trivino (Georgetown, Ontario) added the second score for Castleton at the 8:21 mark. Vanessa VanBuskirk (Winthrop, Mass.) fired in power play goal for Salem State with just over two minutes left, but despite pulling the goalie, Castleton's defense prevented the Vikings from a shot on net.

Alexis Kalm (Aberdeen, N.C) earned the win in net stopping 26 shots while Dana Smullen (Peabody, Mass.) took the loss in her first start with 19 stops.
