Vikings Top Trailblazers 59-40

North Adams, Mass. - Liz Zaiter produced a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds as Salem State defeated MCLA 59-40 in MASCAC action this evening from the Amsler Campus Center. With the win, the Vikings improve to 4-10 overall and earn their first conference win as they're now 1-2. MCLA falls to 2-11 overall and is 0-3 in the league.

Salem State jumped out to a 14-9 lead after one quarter of play.  The Vikings really clamped down on MCLA in the second quarter as they held MCLA to just 1-16 (6.3%) shooting in the period.  The Vikings outscored MCLA 20-2 to seize total control as Zaiter and Mia Crowley each had six points in the second quarter.  Salem State would eventually lead 34-11 at the half. Zaiter led all scorers with 12 first half points.

Both teams were sloppy with the ball as they combined for 34 first half turnovers.  MCLA shot just 13% over the opening twenty minutes of action.

Salem State held MCLA at bay in the second half, taking their largest lead, 36-11 after a Crawley basket with 9:25 left in the third.

Crowley collected 12 points for the Vikings, who overcame 29 turnovers to earn the win. MCLA was led by Kylah Langston's game high of 16 points. The Trailblazers committed 28 turnovers and shot just 12-55 (21.8%) from the field.
