Salem State Names Megan Jenkerson Interim Head Softball Coach

SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State athletic director Nicolle Wood is pleased to announce that Megan Jenkerson has been named the interim head softball coach, replacing Alex Campione, who guided the program for two seasons. Jenkerson previously served as an assistant softball coach and game administrator coordinator at her alma mater, Gordon College.

"I am grateful that we were able to hire Megan for this position and excited to see the direction she brings the team this spring, added Wood." "Her experiences in DIII as a student-athlete, leader and coach demonstrate a level of success and commitment to the student-athlete experience that I look forward to seeing continue at SSU. I also am thankful to Alex Campione for her dedication to the Salem State softball program the past few years and the strong foundation she built for Megan to inherit and build on."

Jenkerson, who graduated in 2019, was a three-time Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) First Team softball selection and an NFCA-All Region pick in 2017. The former catcher and third baseman holds several school records for the Fighting Scots: including, career home runs (18), season hits (51), season runs (41), season home runs (10), season triples (9), and season games played (40).

Now after a season as an assistant coach at Gordon, Jenkerson has been given the opportunity to stay on the North Shore to lead the Vikings.

"I'd like to thank athletic director Nicolle Wood for the privilege to work with the Vikings' softball program. I'm incredibly excited about the group of student-athletes I've inherited. This is a responsibility I do not take lightly and will strive to maintain and grow the softball program in ways that both the university and alumni can be proud of."

Jenkerson graduated with a degree in recreation, sport, and wellness as well as a kinesiology minor. She currently is pursuing a master's degree in sports psychology from the University of Western States.
