UMass Boston Defeats Salem State For Little East Title

WEYMOUTH, Mass. -- #1 UMass Boston men's tennis cruised to their fourth Little East Conference Tournament Title in program history, with a 5-0 sweep over #2 Salem State University in Saturday's LEC Championship Match. The Beacons swept doubles play and added singles wins from Onkgopotse Mokoka (Pretoria, South Africa) and Miguel Beltran (Ashland, Mass.) to avenge last year's defeat to the Vikings in the championship game.

Alexander Comerchero (Brookline, Mass.) and Mokoka fell behind 5-3 early, before roaring back by winning the next five games to claim an 8-5 win at third doubles over Noah Hodgkins (Winthrop, Mass.)  / Moses Ba (Lynn, Mass.). The Beacons second doubles pairing of Roy Platteel (Holbrook, Mass.) and Ray Platteel (Holbrook, Mass.) made it 2-0 moments later with an 8-3 victory against Mitchell Dyer (N. Attleboro, Mass.) / Chen Chen (Lawrence, Mass.). Nandish Shah (Ahmedabad, India) and Beltran completed the sweep, winning 8-1 against Andrew Muttiah (Colombo, Sri Lanka) / Roni Bazile (Brockton, Mass.).

UMass Boston improves to 13-5 and will advance to next week's NCAA Tournament. Salem State concludes their season with a record of 9-5.
