Muttiah Leads Vikings Past Anchormen

Providence, R.I. – Salem State evened their record at 4-4 with a convincing 6-3 win over Rhode Island College on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings improve to 3-1 in the Little East while the Anchormen go to 7-2 and absorb their first conference loss to slip to 4-1. 

Andrew Muttiah (Colombo, Sri Lanka) led the way with a pair of wins. Muttiah won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles over Alan Esposito (Clinton, Conn.) and earned another win with Chen Chen (Lawrence, Mass.) at first doubles, 8-2 over Esposito and Alex Bourque (North Smithfield, R.I.).

Roni Bazile (Brockton, Mass.) remained unbeaten in conference play with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles and partnered with Mitchell Dyer (N. Attleboro, Mass.) for a win at second doubles 8-2 over Chandler Scott (Ashaway, R.I.) and Mike Shea (Greenville, R.I.).

Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick, R.I.) and Ethan Hoy (West Warwick, R.I.) picked up a point at third doubles for Rhode Island College.  

Dyer and Chen won in straight sets at third and fourth singles respectively for two more points as the Anchormen tallied two points with wins at fifth and sixth singles.
