Former Viking Ken Hodgkins '13 Named New Head Men's Tennis Coach

Salem, Mass. – Salem State athletic director Tracey Hathaway is pleased to announce the hiring of former Viking Ken Hodgkins '13 as the new Salem State men's tennis coach. "Alumni are one of our most important assets in our continued pursuit of athletic and academic success. Ken has proven himself as a student-athlete, as a collegiate coach and as a mentor in the community.  It's a privilege to bring back someone who bleeds "blue and orange."  Hodgkins replaces Tim Stonecipher, who guided the Vikings to an 18-12 record over three seasons, which included the Little East Tournament Championship and NCAA Tournament this past year.    

Hodgkins joins Salem State after recently serving as the head men's and women's tennis coach at Wentworth Institute of Technology.  He previously served as the head girl's tennis coach at Winthrop High School in 2016 and 2017.  Hodgkins was named the Northeastern Conference Coach of the Year in 2016, and helped the team set a new single season program record for wins in 2017.  

Prior to becoming a head coach, he served for a season as the assistant boy's tennis coach at Winthrop High School in 2014 and as an assistant men's tennis coach under Joe Gallo at Salem State in 2015.  He has also worked numerous camps and serves as the tennis coordinator for the Winthrop Parks and Recreation Department.

Hodgkins earned his degree in Business Management from the University in 2013, playing both singles and doubles for three seasons for the men's tennis program.  His junior year (2012), he was named Second Team All-Little East in doubles.  As a senior captain, he won the Regis Doubles Tournament, and was later voted Team MVP the following spring.
