Salem State Upended By St. Joseph's 2-0

SALEM, Mass. - Austin Ward's (North Andover, Mass.) two-goal performance lifted St Joseph's to a 2-0 win over Salem State on Wednesday evening at Alumni Field. The Monks improve to 6-0-2 on the season and extend their regular season unbeaten streak to 37 games (33-0-4). The Vikings slip to 4-4 on the year.

The score was locked at 0-0 for the majority of the first half until the 38th minute. Cody Elliott (Gorham, Maine) found Ward, who took a low shot, which slipped past keeper Christopher Jimenez (Nashua, N.H.) as the Monks went up 1-0.

St. Joseph's took the 1-0 into the half, as the teams combined for just five total shots. The Monks held a 4-0 advantage in corners.

In the 71st minute, Elliot and Ward connected again for another goal St. Joseph's goal. Elliott delivered a pass to Ward, who took another low shot to the right side of the net, to extend the lead to 2-0.

The Vikings finished the game with only two shot attempts as St. Joseph's dominated possession from start to finish. The Monks had 11 shot attempts for the game.

Monks' goalie David Walbridge (Hampden, Mass.) gained the win (6-0-2) with a clean sheet, finishing with one save. Jimenez took the loss (3-4) ending with four saves.
