VIKINGS PARTICIPATE IN READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK

SALEM, Mass. -- In March, coach Eric Small and members of the Salem State men's lacrosse and baseball teams visited the Washington Elementary School in Lynn. In honor of National Read Across America Week, the Vikings participated in the school's Reading Day. Additionally, the student-athletes also shared their experiences throughout their own educational journey and how their commitment to academics led them to opportunities to also become a collegiate athlete.

Freshman lacrosse goalie Stephen Balcher (Townsend, Mass.) reflected on the event while speaking for his teammates. "It was awesome being able to read to the students at Washington Elementary School in Lynn. We were allowed time to really get to know the students and offer them insight on what it takes to become a successful student-athlete. I struggled going through school, and playing lacrosse at the same time when I was their age. I wanted to emphasize the importance of balancing school with athletics."
