Emerson Pulls Away For 16-7 Victory Over Salem State

BOSTON – Emerson broke open a close contest with a seven-goal third period as the Lions pulled away for a 16-7 victory over Salem State on Wednesday. Emerson raises their record to 2-9 while the Vikings slide to 3-5.

Jared Brush and Austin Franklin led the Lions with five goals apiece. Kevin Albert (Canton, Mass.) had three goals while Tyler Morris (Billerica, Mass.) scored two for Salem State. Kyle Henry (Attleboro, Mass.) and Dan McLaughlin (Boston, Mass.) each had one goal for the Vikings.

The two teams exchanged goals over the first 15 minutes as the game exited the first tied 4-4. Brush had two goals as the Lions netted the first four goals of the game. However, Albert answered with back-to-back goals and after Morris and Henry scored just 21 seconds apart, the game was tied.

Austin Franklin broke the tie at the 10:57 mark of the third, but McLaughlin and Albert gave Salem State a 6-5 halftime lead.

However, Emerson outshot the Vikings 16-5 in the third as the home team took control, outscoring the Vikings 7-1. Morris added the only goal for Salem State as Franklin led the flurry with three goals in the quarter.

The Lions closed out the game with four more scores in the fourth to win 16-7.

Stephen Balcher (Townsend, Mass.) gave up 10 goals and made seven saves in the loss before being replaced by Jack Ganter (Lynnfield, Mass.), who made four stops with six goals allowed in 22 minutes of work.

Malcolm McGrath earned the win, allowing seven scores while making nine saves for Emerson, which outshot the Vikings 44-24 for the game.
