Vikings Throttle Becker 13-2

SALEM, Mass. --  Nick Quirk (Fitchburg, Mass.) netted four goals and added two assists as Salem State easily defeated Becker 13-2 on Tuesday evening at Alumni Field. The Vikings improve to 2-4 on the year while the Hawks remain winless at 0-5.

Quirk  – 4 goals, Kevin Albert (Canton, Mass.) –  3 goals, Tyler Morris (Billerica, Mass.) – 2 goals Anthony Dalbon (Ashburnham, Mass.) – 2 goals, Jay Colletti (Billerica, Mass.) – 1 goal and Craig Gordon (Salem, Mass.) – 1 goal all scored for Salem State. 

Jack Schneider (Morrisville, Vt.) – 1 goal and Tyler Forest (Simi Valley, Calif.) – 1 goal each scored for Becker.

The Hawks opened the game with a goal from Schneider less than two minutes into the contest. However, Salem State exploded for five unanswered goals to end the period as the Vikings built a four-goal cushion. Quirk had two of the goals. Salem State's run continued into the second half as Morris, Albert and Gordon all added goals to increase the lead to 8-1. Albert added his third of the game just before halftime, giving Salem State a commanding 9-1 lead into the half. The Vikings outshot the Hawks 29-7 while Kyle Henry (Attleboro, Mass.) won 10-11 face-offs. 

Salem State extended their lead to 12-2, outscoring the Hawks 3-1 in the third. Morris, and two scores from Quirk, sandwiched around a score from Forest gave the Vikings a 10-goal advantage heading into the fourth.

Dalbon capped the scoring with goal midway through the fourth.

Stephen Balcher (Townsend, Mass.) picked up his second win of the season making four saves. Jack Ganter (Lynnfield, Mass.) – two saves and Zach Isham (Chicopee, Mass.) ended the game in net in the fourth quarter for the Vikings. Daniel Whittenburg (Eastford, Conn.) made 30 saves in the loss.

Morris also had three assists and Henry finished with 12 ground balls while winning 15-18 face-offs. The Vikings outshot the Hawks 56-13.
