Rivier Cruises Past Salem State 14-3

NASHUA, N.H. -- Salem State lost their second consecutive game to open the season, 14-3 to Rivier in Saturday afternoon. The Raiders continue their unbeaten streak and improve to 3-0 while the Vikings now stand at 2-0.

The two teams exchanged goals in the opening minutes, but the Raiders ripped off five straight scores to go up 6-1. The first goal of the match was credited to senior Colby Larsen (Windham, N.H.) three minutes into the game.  Vikings immediately retaliated with a man up goal, scored by freshman Anthony Dalbon (Ashburnham, Mass.) to even the score.  

However, senior Chris Pennie (Wilmington, Mass.) responded with two more goals assisted by freshman Nick Ackerman (Durham, N.H.) and senior Rob Fullerton (Wilmington, Mass.).  Pennies two goals helped the Raiders pull away from that tie.  

Sophomore Dylan McSparren (Warwick, R.I.) and senior Eric Guinasso(Pelham, N.H.) both scored in man up situtations and Larsen was able to sneak one more goal.  However it was Vikings freshman, Tyler Morris (Billerica, Mass.)  who closed the period out with a goal off of a turnover caused by freshman Anthony Dalbon (Ashburnham, Mass.).

The two programs went back in forth in the second period. While the Vikings out shot the Raiders 12-6.  Three of the six goals were scored a man up for the Raiders. Three straight goals were netted by Eric Guinasso.  Larsen and McSparren were credited for the other 2 goals for the period.  Sophmore Jake Lamoureux (Weymouth, Mass.) tallied the first goal of his season at the 7:55 mark, the assisit was given to Tyler Morris

Senior Matt Cloutman (Peabody, Mass.) tallied 10 saves on the day while Vikings sophomore Zach Isham (Chicopee, Mass.) walked away with four saves. Stephen Balcher (Townsend, Mass.) entered in goal after halftime, making four saves while allowing six goals for Salem State.
