Gordon Defeats Salem State in Season Opener

Wenham, Mass. -- Gordon College built an 8-0 halftime lead and outscored Salem State 7-0 in the third quarter as the Fighting Scots defeated the Vikings 18-2 in the season opener for Salem State on Wednesday. The Fighting Scots improve to 2-0 while Salem State is now 0-1. 

Zach Perrson (Danvers, Mass.) and Anthony Dalbon (Ashburnham, Mass.) each scored for Salem State. Kyle Henry (Attleboro, Mass.) picked up seven ground balls in the loss. 

Gordon was paced on offense by Dan Arthur's six goals, Austin Early and Dawson Tozier netted three goals, respectively, and Tytus Moen had two goals and three assists. Billy Biegun scooped up 10 ground balls and Tyler Pauls caused four turnovers in the victory

The Fighting Scots got hot early scoring three unanswered goals in the first quarter. 

Tozier netted two of his three goals in the second quarter to extend the Scots lead 6-0 with 8:58 to play in the half. Early and Moen got in on the goal parade leading by as many as eight with just under three minutes remaining. Perrsson put Salem on the board finding the back of the net for his first goal of the season. 

A seven goal third quarter for the Scots was spearheaded by Arthur who had three of his five goals in the frame.

Early found Arthur twice to put his squad up 17-1 in the fourth quarter before Nate Distasio scored an unassisted goal with 9:49 left. In the closing minute, Dalbon grabbed a pass from Zach Royal (Fr./Abington, Mass.) to add another goal for the Vikings. 

Chris Schaub (Brewster, N.Y.) allowed eight goals while making six saves. Zach Isham (Chicopee, Mass.) allowed 10 goals with five saves in relief. Jay Gallipo earned the win allowing one goal woth six saves in three quarters of work. Lars Githmark - one save and Jacob Lopez split time in net in the final quarter.
