Gulls Skate Past Vikings 4-1

SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State opened their 2019-20 campaign with a 4-1 loss to Endicott on Saturday afternoon at Rockett Arena. The Vikings jumped on top early as Callum Hofford (Woodbridge, Ontario) (Victoria, British Columbia) converted a power-play just over five minutes in off a feed from Trey Olson (Omaha, Neb.). However, Jason Kalinowski (Stamfrod, Conn.) ripped home the equalizer on a Gulls' power play as the two teams headed into the first intermission tied 1-1.

Endicott pulled ahead, scoring three unsanswered goals in the second to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Luke Rodgers (Clarkston, Mich.) notched a shorthanded goal before, Zach Mazzur (Lancaster, N.Y.) and James Winkler (York, Maine) added goals less than two minutes apart.

The Vikings were limited to just five shots in each of the three periods as their power play failed to convert, despite ample opportunities in the third.

Conor O'Brien (Pinellas Park, Fla.) picked up the win in net, making 14 saves, while Sean Cleary (Barnstable, Mass.) made 22 stops in the loss.
