Vikings Edge Rams 3-2

Framingham, Mass.— Connor Irving's (Beverly, Mass.) third period goal proved to be the difference as Salem State held on for a 3-2 win over Framingham State in MASCAC action on Saturday evening at Loring Arena. The Vikings are now 3-5-1 and 3-3 in the MASCAC. Framingham State slips to 1-8-1 and 0-5-1 in conference. 

Halfway through the first the Vikings were able to kill off a 5-on-3 Rams advantage of over ninety seconds to preserve the scoreless game as the two sides skated. The Rams got on the board just over a minute into the second period Brendan Williams (Richmond, VA) sent in a one-time pass from Soren Colstrup (Owatonna, MN) to take a 1-0 lead.

The Vikings answered with two quick scores in the in the middle of the second. First Derek Scoggins (Anchorage, AK) scored with help from Jimmy Currier (Middleton, Mass.) and Parker Wood (Rochester Hills, MI). Just under two minutes later Billy Falter (Wilmington, Mass.) took a break out pass from Luca Ragosta (Smithfield, RI) to a breakaway and beat the Rams keeper 1-on-1.

The Vikings scored the eventual game-winner in the 13th minute of the 3rd when Irving scored with assists from Wood and Currier. 

The Rams answered under a minute later when Matt Siegel (Syracuse, NY) grabbed a loose puck in the offensive zone and scored to cut the deficit back to one. The Rams had a power play in the final five minutes and pulled their goalie in the final moments but the Vikings defense held strong. 

In between the pipes, Sean Cleary (Barnstable, Mass.) made 21 saves in net for the Vikings. Greg Harney (East Haven, Conn.) made 25 stops for the Rams.
