Fighting Scots Blank Salem State 2-0

SALEM, MASS. – Gordon College blanked Salem State 2-0 in the season opener for both teams at Alumni Field on Friday afternoon. Sabrina Jandreau (Winslow, Maine) scored twice in the first half and Julia Altman (Hopkinton, Mass.) secured the shutout making three saves in net.

Jandreau opened the scoring at the 12:00 minute mark of the first, converting a penalty shot past the glove of goalie Kaitlyn O'Shea (Ledgewood, N.J.). Jandreau later extended the lead to 2-0 as she knocked in a pass from Emma Ellsworth (West Chester, Pa.).

Vikings' goalie O'Shea was replaced by Kelli McCarthy (Foxborough, Mass.) in the seccond half, as McCarthy kept Salem State in the game, making several key stops as Gordon tallied seven total shots, but were denied each time buy the freshman keeper.

The Fighting Scots totaled 13 shots for the game to just five for the Vikings while Gordon held a 11-5 advantage in corners.
