Bio

A Salem native, Doyle played varsity basketball all four years at Salem scoring more than twenty points per game. In his freshman year, he attained his highest average – 29.3 points per game. In addition to being named to the Teacher’s College Conference teams all four years he played, he was captain of the Salem team his senior year. During the years Doyle played, Salem State compiled a 69-14 record including a 20-2 mark during his senior year. The team captured two leaguer championships. Doyle also competed on the varsity team for three years.

 

Following graduation, Doyle taught for nine years before becoming an administrator in the Salem Public Schools. He is currently the principle of the Bates Elementary School. He had coached basketball and plays golf and tennis. In 1970, he and his tennis partner Ed Gwin ’51, were ranked fifth best team doubles in New England. An avid golfer, he has won several amateur tournaments.

 

Doyle lives in Salem with his wife, Joan. They are the parents of five children – Kim, John, David, Patrick and Thomas.
