Bio

Joseph “Skip” Arvilla is one of only six Salem State ice hockey players to score over 150 career points, scoring 165 points during his four years to place sixth all-time in Salem State history. Skip held the record for most goals in a season with 26, and points in a season (49) upon graduation in 1968. Known as a prolific scorer, Skip also was one of the best all-around hockey players to ever play for the Vikings. Along with current Hall of Fame teammates Mike Gilligan ‘70, Jerry Driscoll ‘69, and Alan Fessenden ‘66, this core group became instrumental in helping the hockey program develop into one of the best collegiate programs in New England. Today, the Salem State hockey team presents the “Joseph F “Skip” Arvilla III Memorial Award” annually to the team’s leading scorer.
