Scott Braid Named Head Athletic Trainer

SALEM, Mass. -  Salem State University Athletic Director, Nicolle Wood, is pleased to announce the promotion of Scott Braid to head athletic trainer. Braid, who most recently served as interim head athletic trainer, has been a part of the athletic training staff at Salem State for the past 11 years.

"We are excited to have Scott take on this new role, and are looking forward to his leadership as we navigate the current health crisis and the eventual return of sports. Scott is highly respected by our student-athletes, staff, and coaches and is focused on providing the best care possible to the Viking student-athlete community."

Braid, a native of Everett, Mass., began as an assistant athletic trainer at Salem State University in 2009. He completed his undergraduate degree in Athletic Training from Merrimack College where he also participated with the men's soccer program before concentrating solely on his academics.

He eventually earned his Master's Degree in Exercise Science from Syracuse University in 2009, working with the football and swimming & diving teams, and will complete his Doctoral Degree in Athletic Training from Temple University in August.

With clinical expertise in evidence-based practice and patient-centered care, Braid has been an integral part of the training staff at Salem State, providing overall medical care to student-athletes:, including prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. More recently he was responsible for supervising athletic training students as an ATEP clinical preceptor in the University's CAATE accredited ATEP program. Braid also trained the athletics staff in first aid, CPR and AED and served as an assistant for practicum courses, teaching skills such as taping, evaluation techniques, and emergency care.

"It is an honor to have been named the head athletic trainer at Salem State University. This role has been one that I have strived for since beginning my career. My mission will be to enhance the care we provide to our student athletes by bringing the most up-to-date and comprehensive practices to our facility. With the help of my staff, we will bring Salem State athletic training into the modern era of health care with a focus on our patients and their overall well-being. I am beyond excited to start this next chapter, and cannot wait for when it is healthy and safe to have our Vikings back on campus ready to compete."

Braid resides in Beverly, MA with his wife, Becky, and his dogs, Sadie and Marty McFly.
