Polar Bears Blank Vikings 3-0

BRUNSWICK, Maine –  Bowdoin College defeated Salem State 3-0 in non-conference action on Tuesday evening. The Polar Bears won 25-13, 25-7, 25-7  to improve to 14-1 on the season. The Vikings go to 10-6.

The match was competitive in the first set as Salem State came out firing and held a 10-9 midway through the frame. Bowdoin took complete command from there, scoring seven straight points that sparked a 16-3 surge to end the set and give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Bowdoin opened on an 11-4 run en route to a second set victory and also sprinted to an early lead – 8-0 – in the third to complete the sweep.

After trailing 10-9 in the opening set, Bowdoin won 66 of the next 83 points in the match. Caroline Flaharty led the way for Bowdoin with 13 kills and just one error in 17 attacks. As a team, Bowdoin had 41 kills and six errors and hit a .547 rate. Kate Kiser had 16 assists before giving way to Lexie Freund, who posted 17. Flaharty led Bowdoin with 11 digs while Lisa Sheldon had ten. Cori Gray had five blocks.

For Salem State, Darcy McDowell had five kills while Morgan Adams had eight assists. Samantha Chaisson had five digs and Maddi O'Connor had two blocks defensively.
