Salem State Advances to Little East Semifinals

SALEM, MASS. – No. 3 seed Salem State defeated No. 6 seed Southern Maine 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon at The Central Campus Tennis Courts to advance to the second round of the Little East Conference Women's Tennis Tournament. The Vikings will now face No. 2 seed Plymouth State in a semifinal match on Friday, October 19 at 11:00 AM at host Rhode Island College.

Anastasia Startseva (Volgograd, Russia) / Caroline Robitaille (South Hadley, Mass.) and Madeline Allaire (Columbus, Ohio) / Meredith Macdonald (Lynn, Mass.) teamed up for a pair of victories at first and second doubles over Ashley Owens (Penn Yan, N.Y.) / Courtney Jordan (Portland, Maine) and Margaret Smith (Farmingdale, Maine) / Elise Harvey (Newton Abbot, United Kingdom).  Kristin Klimowicz(Ipswich, Mass) / Hannah Dahrouge (South Hadley, Mass.) won the third doubles match with an 8-2 win.

Startseva and Macdonald earned the deciding points in singles play. Startseva shut out Jordan, 6-0, 6-0 at first singles while Macdonald earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory at fourth singles.

Salem State improves to 9-5 on the year while the Huskies conclude their season with a mark of 6-7.
