Salem State Sweeps Emmanuel 3-0

SALEM, Mass. – Haley Reed's (Goffstown, N.H.) vital seven service ace performance helped the Salem State Vikings shut out the Emmanuel Saints 3-0 on Tuesday evening at Twohig Gymnasium. The Vikings won all three sets, 25-16, 25-18 and 25-12. Salem State rises to 13-8 on the year while the Saints fall to 7-13 on the season.

In the first set, the Saints committed 11 attack errors as the Vikings were able to capitalize on Emmanuel's mistakes, winning the set 25-16.

In the second set, Salem State went on an 8-0 run bringing the score to 15-5. Morgan Adams (Scotia, N.Y.) contributed two service aces to help the Vikings. Later in the set, the Saints went on a 6-0 run to pull within strikings distance. However, it wasn't enough as Reed spiked the ball on the out of the Saints' reach, giving Salem State a 25-18 set win.

Reed opened up the third set with three serve aces. Her fourth service ace was the tipping point for the Vikings giving them a 17-10 lead as the Vikings finished strong, winning the third set 25-12.

Casey Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) led Emmanuel with eight kills and 11 digs. For the Vikings, Darcy McDowell (Goshen, N.Y.) led the team in kills with nine, and Adams added 27 assists, and eight digs.

Salem State forced the Saints to a .000 hitting percentage for the game. For the match, the Vikings had a .223 hitting percentage.
