Five Vikings Named to 2019 All-MASCAC Women's Soccer Team, Pesce Earns Rookie of the Year Honors

SALEM, Mass. – Emily Boyle (Manchester, N.H) was named to the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer First Team in an announcement by the league on Wednesday. Boyle headlines five Salem State players who were voted on to the MASCAC All-Conference Team. Devyn Malatesta (Wilmington, Mass.), Colleen Hurley (Braintree, Mass.), Katie Brown (Milford, Mass.) and Madison Pesce (Danvers, Mass.) were all named to the second team with Pesce earning MASCAC Rookie of the Year honors. Head coach Nicolle Wood was named the Champion's Choice Coach of the Year.

Boyle a first time selection was Salem State's leader on the field, pacing the offensive attack while also helping on the defensive side. One of the league's best all-around players she led Salem State to its best conference finish (8-8-2, 5-1-1, 2nd Place) in over a decade. Malatesta and Brown were the Vikings' top scorers this season. Malatesta topped Salem State in scoring – 21 points (7g, 7a) –, which ranked fifth in the conference. Brown posted 19 points (8g, 3a), producing a top-ten finish in the MASCAC in points (8th).

Hurley a second-time all-conference selection, produced a pair of goals in 15 starts for the Vikings while Pesce, the league's top rookie, spearheaded a defense that yielded seven shutouts and just 27 goals in 18 games for a 1.42% goals against average, which was fourth best in the league.
