SALEM, Mass. - Megan Gurlitz (Auburn, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal 4:36 into the first overtime as #3 Worcester State defeated #2 Salem State 3-2 in the semifinals of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Tournament. The Lancers advance to the championship game against #4 Bridgewater State. Worcester State is now 10-7-2 on the year while the Vikings end their season 8-8-2.

In the 34th minute, Ali Maldonado (Rutland, Mass.) took a free-kick and shot it from 30 yards out into the top right corner putting the Lancers up 1-0.

A few minutes later, Salem State's Kaley Moran (Arlington, Mass.) tried to tie the game by attempting a shot but the ball soared over the crossbar.

Worcester State led 1-0 at the half. The Lancers attempted six shots with five on target and the Vikings took two shots with only one on target.

In the 53rd minute, Devyn Malatesta (Wilmington, Mass.) crossed it to Katie Brown (Milford, Mass.) who then headed the ball into the net to even the game 1-1.

In the 54th minute, Worcester State responded as Haley Ferrin (North Attleboro, Mass.) sent a pass to Tsara LeBlanc (Gardner, Mass.), who shot it low to take the lead back for the Lancers at 2-1.

Less than four minutes later, both teams were battling for the ball in front of the Lancers' net. Taylor Capozzi (Lynn, Mass.) came up with the loose ball and kicked it from a yard out to knot the game 2-2 in the 59th minute.  

The game was forced into extra time, setting up Gurlitz for the game-winning goal. Gurlitz took a shot and keeper Rebecca Sabino (Peabody, Mass.) could only get a finger on it as the ball rolled into the net for the win.

Worcester State and Salem State each attempted nine shots. The Lancers had six shots on target and the Vikings had seven on target.  

Ashley Spellman (Lancaster, Mass.) earned the win (6-3-1) finishing with five saves and two goals allowed. Sabino took the loss (6-6-1) conceding three goals while saving three shots.
