Vikings Post 5-0 Win Over Fitchburg State

SALEM, Mass. – Salem State shut out Fitchburg State 5-0 on "Senior Day" at Alumni Field. The Vikings, who have won four of their past five matches, improved to 8-7-2 on the year and 5-1-1 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference. The win clinched the second seed in the upcoming MASCAC Tournament, earning the Vikings a bye.

Devyn Malatesta (Wilmington, Mass.), Colleen Hurley (Braintree, Mass.), Vashti Etienne (Avon, Mass.), Katie Brown (Milford, Mass.) and Taylor Capozzi (Lynn, Mass.) were all honored in a pre-game ceremony for their dedication and commitment to the Salem State women's soccer program.

Salem State jumped out to a 3-0 first half lead, as the Vikings efficiently scored three goals on just four shots. Brown opened the scoring in the first minute and was complimented by scores from Capozzi and Malatesta as Salem State's defense limited Fitchburg State (5-13, 2-5) to just three shots.   

Brown extended the lead to 4-0 in the 58th minute before Hurley capped the scoring in the 89th minute, making the final 5-0.

Rebecca Sabino (Peabody, Mass.) made six saves to post her second shutout of the season. Sarah Hemmings (Eastham, Mass.) stopped two shots in the loss.
