Owls Post 4-0 Victory Over Vikings

KEENE, N.H. - Salem State registered 14 shots, but three first half scores by Keene State led to a 4-0 combined shutout by the Owls from Dr. Ron Butcher Field on Tuesday evening. Keene State is now 8-7 on the year while the Vikings dip below .500 and go to 6-7-2.

Three minutes into the contest, the Owls were awarded with a penalty shot when one KSC player was tripped up inside the box, resulting in a penalty shot. Casey Koziara was called on to take the shot. Koziara was robbed by Salem State GK Rebecca Sabino, but Kaliana Palhof was able to jump on the saved shot and sent a ball into the center of the box where Casey Koziara was there to bang in the pass, giving the Owls the very early 1-0 advantage.

Salem State would spend some time in the attacking zone but there would be no shots on goal in the first half against the Owls starter Shelby Offord. The Vikings saw their best chance in the 29th minute when Katie Brown was sent a through ball and saw some room to run. KSC's Nicole De Almeida tracked down Brown before she was able to take a quality chance on goal, resulting the Vikings to be scoreless in the first half.

The Owls would take on a pair in the remaining seven minutes of the first half, when Kaliana Palhof would net her 7th and 8th goals of the season. Her first goal was a through pass sent by Kayleigh Marshall that Palhof was able to find and shoot into the middle of the net, passed Rebecca Sabino, giving the Owls the 2-0 lead. Just four minutes later, Palhof was up to yet another goal this time from Jordyn Abasciano, giving the Owls a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

KSC would once again roll with their tandem of Shelby Offord and Abbie Terrinca in between the pipes. Terrinca came away with four saves in the second half, shutting down the attack for the Vikings. After giving up three goals in the first half, Rebecca Sabino was relived in favor of Lily Pfefferle, who made two saves on three shots.

Keene State's final goal of the evening came from Ashely Bates who used her speed down the right side of the field to net the 4th goal for the Owls. Bates found some running room along the side of the field and cut into the box and took a shot just inside the box, netting her third goal of the year into the bottom right corner of the net, sealing the deal for the Owls as they pick up their fifth consecutive victory. The Owls defeated the Salem State Vikings 4-0.

KSC continues to use their two goaltenders, splitting the 90 minutes of play in half. Shelby Offord came in and saw seven shots come her way, but they were all off target. Abbie Terrinca was able to scoop all four shots that she saw on goal, resulting in the Owls 4th shut out of the season, and 4th in their last five games.

The Vikings goaltending crew of Sabino and Pfefferle came up with nine total saves in the contest, with Sabino taking the majority with seven.
