Gulls Shut Out Vikings 3-0

SALEM, Mass. – Madeline Cheney's (Bow, N.H.) two-goal effort helped push the Endicott Gulls past the Salem State Vikings 3-0 on Monday evening at Alumni Field. The Gulls are now 7-4-4 on the season and the Vikings fall to 3-9 on the year.

In the 22nd minute, Catherine Elkas (Holden, Mass.) got loose on a breakaway  but her point-blank shot was deflected by Rebecca Sabino (Peabody, Mass.), who along with the Vikings' defense made two more successive saves from close range, keeping the game scoreless.

In the 43rd minute, Madeline Mucher (Andover, Mass.) scored the first goal of the game to put the Gulls up 1-0. The shot drifted to the left side of the net, out of Sabino's reach giving Endicott a one-goal lead going into halftime.

Cheney scored both of her goals in the second half. In the 69th minute, Gabriella Prisco (West Haven, Conn.) assisted Cheney with a low pass for a goal from a yard out. Cheney's second goal came in the 80th minute when Jillian Presser (Trumbull, Conn.) setup Cheney for a slick shot that curved just inside the right side of the net.

Endicott finished with 14 shots while Salem State manged only five. Sabino saved seven shots for match and the Gulls' Kayla Wentworth (Taunton, Mass.) stopped three shots.
