Tufts Blanks Salem State 3-0

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Tufts placed 18 shots on net while holding Salem State to just one in a 3-0 win over the Vikings on Tuesday afternoon at Kraft Field. The Jumbos (7-2-2) totalled 44 for the game in earning their seventh shutout of the season. The Vikings are now 3-7 on the year.

The first twenty minutes held several scoring opportunities for the Jumbos, as a result of crisp passing and determined effort to control the ball. Defense turned to offense for the team in the 24thminute as sophomore Liz Reed lifted a shot just under the crossbar for her fifth goal of the season after the Jumbos forced a turnover in the box.

Despite 20 first-half shots, and ball possession for almost the whole 45 minutes, Tufts would enter halftime up just one goal. However, it would not take long into the second for the Jumbos to resume scoring. Just one minute into the half sophomore Hannah Isenhart found fellow sophomore Sophie Lloyd in front of the net open from roughly penalty shot distance. Lloyd regained herself and fired an unstoppable shot top-shelf for her team-leading 8th goal of the year.

Not to be outdone, Reed would return to the scoring books once again just five minutes after Lloyd, making it 3-0 Tufts. Reed received the pass from Isenhart at the top of the box took a step in, and swung her left leg once again for her second goal of the night on yet another sophomore connection.

Starting goalkeeper Emily Bowers would combine with sophomore goalkeeper Ava McKane to hold Salem State to no goals. This marks Mckane's first collegiate game, she played 40 minutes of shutout soccer. Goalkeeper Amanda Backe played a great game, saving 15 shots on the day.

Tufts was led by Liz Reed offensively as she scored two goals, while assisting on the other. Hannah Isenhart also contributed two assists in the game.
