#16 MIT Cruises Past Salem State

SALEM, Mass. – Emily Berzolla (Riverside, Conn.) led #16 MIT to a 7-0 defeat of Salem State with a goal and two assists on Tuesday evening at Alumni Field. The Engineers improve to 6-1-1 while the Vikings slip to 1-4 on the season.

Montana Reilly (Los Angeles, Calif.) opened up the scoring in the third minute as she curled a shot that tucked just inside the left post for a 1-0 MIT lead. Allie Werner (Tyler, Texas) and Kiara Wahnschafft (Winchester, Mass.) each added a goal in the first half for MIT as the Engineers took a commanding 3-0 lead into halftime. MIT was aggressive on both sides of the ball, taking 13 shots while holding the Vikings without a shot.

Early in the second half, Berzolla was able to extend the margin off a mishandle by the Vikings keeper. In the 53rd minute, MIT took a corner and Berzolla delivered a cross to Sarah Moseson (Morristown, N.J.) for a header that found the back of the net.

The Vikings had few opportunities, with just two shots on target by Kaitlyn Curley (Wilmington, Mass.). MIT finished the game with 27 shots (18 on target) and 11 corners. Despite the Engineers relentless offense, Amanda Backe (Danvers, Mass.) earned 11 saves for the game.
